History
The 100 plus year old Allert mansion was one of the most impressive turn of the century Princess Anne style Victorian homes in Langdon. It was built at the turn of the century for a German immigrant,
H. D. Allert, one of Langdon's prominent businessmen and political leaders. The mansion survived the infamously destructive and deadly tornado of May 29th 1909, where numerous buildings were destroyed.
The four story corner turret tower, original oak woodwork, ornate chimney and the shape of the oriel windows are unique points of interest. From 1929-1945, while John J. Boyd owned the house, there was a regular gymnasium, including a boxing arena, in the attic. From the 1940's through the 1970's, as the Darling Boarding House, parts of the mansion were used by female high school students as apartments.
The present owners, Chad and Tiffany Lombardi, purchased the mansion in 2006 and immediately commenced upon restoration and remodel plans of the already beautiful but outdated mansion. The end goal? To open a bed & breakfast in an effort to share the beautiful Princess Anne style Victorian Mansion with others.
Bed & Breakfast at Tiffany’s opened in 2007.
